Eligible children can access bulk billed dental care at Dental Seasons through the Australian Government Child Dental Benefits Schedule, commonly known as CDBS.
CDBS can help cover the cost of eligible basic dental treatment for children aged 0 to 17.
When an eligible CDBS service is bulk billed at Dental Seasons, there is no out-of-pocket payment for that eligible service and you do not need to make the Medicare claim yourself.
Our Sandgate team can check your child’s eligibility and available CDBS balance before eligible treatment is provided.

The Child Dental Benefits Schedule is an Australian Government program that helps eligible families with the cost of basic dental care for children.
To be eligible, a child must be aged 0 to 17 for at least one day of the calendar year, be eligible for Medicare, and either the child or their parent, carer or guardian must receive an eligible Australian Government payment during that year.
You do not need to separately register for CDBS. Services Australia assesses eligibility and will usually notify eligible families.
If you are unsure whether your child is eligible, you can check through your Medicare account in myGov or contact our team before the appointment.
You can check your child’s CDBS eligibility and available balance through Medicare in myGov. Our team can also verify eligibility and the remaining benefit amount before eligible treatment.
Let us know that you would like to use CDBS when you book. Your child can visit us for an examination or for a specific dental concern.
The dentist will assess your child and explain any recommended treatment, whether it can be claimed through CDBS and any relevant item or benefit restrictions before treatment begins.
Where an eligible service is covered by your child’s available CDBS benefit, Dental Seasons can bulk bill the eligible treatment directly. You do not need to pay for that bulk billed service and claim it back later.
We care for children and families from Sandgate and surrounding North Brisbane suburbs. Here are some experiences shared by families who visit our team.

CDBS covers a range of basic dental services for eligible children.
Depending on your child’s needs, eligible services may include:
• Dental examinations and check-ups
• Dental X-rays when clinically required
• Professional cleaning
• Fissure sealants
• Fillings
• Root canal treatment
• Tooth extractions
There are CDBS item, frequency and benefit restrictions, so not every service is automatically covered in every situation.
Before eligible treatment begins, we will explain what is recommended and whether it can be claimed through your child’s available CDBS benefit.
Explore Kids Dental CareFor children whose current two-year CDBS benefit period begins in 2026, up to $1,158 may be available for eligible basic dental services over two consecutive calendar years.
The full available amount can be used in the first year if required. Any remaining balance can generally be used in the second year provided your child remains eligible.
Unused benefits do not carry forward beyond the two-year benefit period.
The CDBS cap is indexed by the Australian Government, so the applicable benefit may differ depending on when your child’s current benefit period began.
CDBS does not cover orthodontic treatment, cosmetic dental treatment or dental services provided in hospital.
If your child needs treatment that is outside CDBS or has insufficient remaining benefits, we will explain this before proceeding so you understand any applicable costs.
If your Medicare online account is linked to myGov, you can check your child’s current CDBS balance online.
Sign in to myGov, open Medicare, then select History and statements followed by Child Dental Benefits Schedule.
You can also contact Medicare or ask our team to check your child’s eligibility and available benefit balance.
You do not need to bring a CDBS eligibility letter to your Dental Seasons appointment.

A child may be eligible if they are aged 0 to 17 for at least one day of the calendar year, are eligible for Medicare and either they or their parent, carer or guardian receive an eligible Australian Government payment during that year. Services Australia determines eligibility.
For a child whose new two-year CDBS benefit period begins in 2026, the benefit cap is up to $1,158 for eligible dental services over two consecutive calendar years. The CDBS benefit cap is indexed annually, so the amount can differ depending on when the child’s benefit period began.
Yes. Dental Seasons can bulk bill eligible CDBS services, subject to your child’s eligibility, available benefit balance and applicable CDBS item restrictions. For an eligible service that is bulk billed, you do not need to pay Dental Seasons and then claim the benefit yourself.
Eligible services can include examinations, X-rays, cleaning, fissure sealants, fillings, root canal treatment and extractions. There are restrictions on some services, so we will confirm coverage before treatment where applicable.
No. Orthodontic dental treatment is not covered under CDBS. If we identify a concern with the developing teeth, bite or jaws, we can still discuss the appropriate next step with you, but orthodontic treatment cannot be bulk billed through CDBS.

No. You cannot claim both a CDBS benefit and a private health insurance benefit for the same dental service.

No. Services Australia states that you do not need to bring your CDBS eligibility letter to the dentist. Eligibility and the available balance can be checked electronically.

If your child is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule, our Sandgate team can help you understand their available benefit and arrange the appropriate dental appointment. Book online or call us if you would like help before booking.
CDBS changes how eligible dental treatment is paid for. It does not change the way we care for your child.
Our team takes the time to explain what is happening, answer parents’ questions and help children become comfortable with dental visits at a pace appropriate for them.
Dental Seasons has been caring for Sandgate families since 2011.
