From a first dental visit or routine check-up to cleans, fillings, toothaches and monitoring how the teeth and bite are developing, our team takes the time to explain what we are doing in age-appropriate language and move at a pace your child can manage.

Children’s dental needs change as they grow. Regular visits allow us to focus on prevention, identify problems early and help your child build healthy habits that can continue into adulthood.
Your child may be eligible for basic dental care through the Child Dental Benefits Schedule. We can check eligibility and available benefit and bulk bill eligible CDBS services when sufficient balance is available.
Early dental visits can help children become familiar with the dental environment while giving parents practical guidance on brushing, diet and caring for new teeth. At check-ups, we look at the teeth, gums and oral development and explain anything that needs attention.
Professional cleaning, fluoride treatment and fissure sealants may be recommended depending on your child’s age and individual risk of tooth decay. We also help families with realistic home-care routines that fit everyday life.
If your child has a sore tooth, decay, a broken tooth or a dental injury, we will first work out what is happening and explain the treatment options clearly. When treatment is needed, our focus is on keeping the appointment as calm and manageable as possible.
As baby teeth are replaced by adult teeth, we monitor eruption, spacing, crowding and the way the bite is developing. If something would benefit from closer assessment, we can explain what we are seeing and whether monitoring, orthodontic assessment or another next step is appropriate.

Children do not all feel the same way about visiting the dentist. Some are curious and confident. Others need more time before they are comfortable sitting in the chair or opening their mouth. We adapt the appointment to the child in front of us rather than expecting every child to respond the same way.
We explain things simply, introduce instruments before using them where helpful, and give children opportunities to ask questions. Parents are kept informed throughout the visit so you understand what we are seeing, what we recommend and why.
For children who are nervous, a successful first appointment may simply be getting comfortable with the room, meeting the team and completing as much of the examination as they can manage. When appropriate, care can be broken into smaller steps rather than trying to do too much at once.
Our goal is not only to look after today’s teeth. We want children to grow up seeing dental care as a normal, understandable part of looking after their health.

The Australian Dental Association recommends that children have a dental examination when their first tooth appears or by their first birthday. Early visits are often simple and help parents get advice on brushing, diet, fluoride and what to expect as more teeth appear.
The first visit is usually about getting to know your child, checking their teeth and gums, and helping them become familiar with the dental environment. Depending on their age and confidence, we may count the teeth, examine the bite, discuss brushing and diet, and complete a clean if appropriate. We do not expect every young child to do everything at the first visit.
The right interval depends on your child’s age, dental history and risk of tooth decay. Many children attend regular six-monthly check-ups, but the dentist will recommend a schedule based on your child’s individual needs.
Yes. It is very common for children to feel nervous or unsure. We use simple language, explain what is happening and avoid rushing. For some children, building confidence over more than one visit is the best approach when treatment is not urgent.
Yes. Baby teeth help children chew, speak and maintain space for the adult teeth developing underneath. Tooth decay in baby teeth can also cause pain or infection, so problems should still be assessed and treated when necessary.
Start brushing as soon as the first tooth appears. Queensland Health guidance recommends a small, soft toothbrush with water for children under 18 months. From 18 months, a pea-sized amount of low-fluoride toothpaste is generally recommended, and from around six years children can use regular-strength fluoride toothpaste unless a dental practitioner advises otherwise.
Children need help and supervision while they develop the coordination to brush thoroughly. Queensland Health advises that parents or carers continue helping with brushing until children are around eight years old, then continue supervising as needed.
Fissure sealants are thin protective coatings placed into the deep grooves of back teeth. They can make these areas easier to keep clean and may reduce the risk of decay in children who would benefit from them. We will only recommend them when clinically appropriate.
A toothache can have several causes, including decay, infection, a cracked tooth or irritation around a new tooth coming through. If pain is persistent, wakes your child, is associated with swelling, or you are concerned, contact us so the tooth can be assessed.
Contact a dentist as soon as possible, particularly if an adult tooth has been knocked loose or out, there is significant bleeding, pain or swelling, or the tooth has changed position. Dental injuries can look minor from the outside but still require assessment.
Teeth grinding can occur in children and does not always require treatment. It is worth mentioning at a check-up, especially if you notice significant tooth wear, pain, sensitivity, headaches or other concerns. We can examine the teeth and jaw and advise whether anything further is needed.
We monitor the way the teeth and bite are developing during routine dental visits. If we notice crowding, crossbites, eruption problems, jaw discrepancies or habits that may affect development, we can discuss whether monitoring or an orthodontic assessment would be useful. Not every child needs early orthodontic treatment.

Yes. We care for babies, children and teenagers. As children become more independent, visits can also focus on brushing technique, diet, sports mouthguards, wisdom teeth, orthodontic concerns and helping teenagers take more responsibility for their own oral health.
